Customer Support Specialist(C++)-Excellent Salary and Benefits - Cambridge -
The Customer Support Group of our client provides direct technical support to OEM Partners of our clients`. You will work within the Support Group as well as with customers and other groups within the company. Travel will be rare. All members of the Support Group are "problem investigators" and solvers. You will not just a be part of a help desk, although you will do that too. Your real contribution, and the joy in this work, is in solving new and challenging problems for our customers. A significant role for Support is to take often cryptic questions or problems from customers and form these into well defined problem statements or statements of need. We work to ensure that if a problem needs to be passed to Development we know it is real and ready for further investigation. To the greatest extent possible, we reduce and narrowly define issues so that minimum Development investigation is required. Adaptability is a key trait we look for in all our Support staff. As products change and requirements shift, all members of Support are expected to adapt as required. There are no fixed and firm job definitions. We all pitch in where needed when needed, within Support or across functional areas. You will provide support for our UK and US offices. Principal responsibilities:· Answer questions related to operation, configurations, and possible problems · Analise and troubleshoot problems reported by our customers · Troubleshoot, test and verify reported problems and devise workarounds if possible · Track problems and resolutions, incorporating various databases · Develop a good working relationship with other groups (QA, Development, Product Management, Sales and others) within the company and use those relationships to enhance the quality of support delivered to your customers · Follow-up on releases, patches, options and documentation · Occasionally provide training to OEMs Essential skills and experience:· Experience in the electronic printing and publishing industry, preferably with PostScript*PDF and output devices such as colour inkjet printers, colour copiers and proofers · A degree in computer science or equivalent experience · 0-2 years C*C++ development on Windows and at least one of: Macintosh, Unix or Linux · Ability to work independently as well as part of a team · Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills · Good written and oral communication skills Desirable skills:· Experience working with customers · Knowledge of standard desktop publishing applications · Knowledge of the PostScript language and PDF file format · Experience with colour management systems · Understanding of digital colour and screening issues · CORBA experience · Borland Delphi experience · C# experience · Visual Basic experience · Microsoft .net experience · COM experience · Experience using any or all of the following compilers: VC++, Watcom C++, VS.Net, gcc, CodeWarrior
